Murder accused brought back from Dubai
A man accused in rape and murder of a sixth-grade school girl was brought back yesterday from Dubai with the help of Interpol.
The accused, Abu Sayeed, 22, was handed over to Fatullah Model Police Station in Narayanganj.
On September 17, Sayeed was arrested in Dubai, capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), after an arrest warrant was issued for him through the Interpol, said Inspector (investigation) Mohammad Shahjalal of the police station.
Earlier, on February 2, Sayeed allegedly raped and killed Monalisa Akter, a student of Haji Uzir Ali High School and daughter of Shaheen Bepari, as his marriage proposal was rejected by Monalisa and her family.
Monalisa's father filed a murder case against Sayeed on February 3.
UAE expatriate Sayeed had returned home several months back and got married to a different girl after his proposal to Monalisa was turned down.
Soon after the killing, he fled to the UAE.
Sayeed is from Paschim Deobhog in Baro Ambagan area of Fatullah and Monalisa was his neighbour, said police.
