Nebraska loses to Louisville, Eliminated from NCAA Tournament in First Round

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Nebraska and Louisville battled in the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament on Friday in Fort Worth, Texas. The teams, with nearly identical records, traded lead throughout an entertaining first round match-up.

Louisville’s Olivia Cochran put the Cardinals in front at the free throw line with :30 left. The 7th-seeded Cardinals added four more free throws in the closing seconds to secure a 63-58 win. Nebraska’s season ends with a 21-12 record.

The Huskers were led by Britt Prince’s 14 points. The freshman guard drove toward the hoop after Cochran’s go-ahead free throw and attempted a shot to give the Huskers the lead. However, Prince was whistled for charging, which was her fifth foul of the game.

Alexis Markowski, playing in the final game of her historic career, recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Amiah Hargrove added 10 points off of the bench.

Nebraska committed 24 turnovers, which led to 27 Louisville points. Tajianna Roberts scored a team-high 16 points for the Cardinals.

Louisville advances to face 2nd-seeded TCU on Sunday.

Nebraska was making its 17th appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
