Fugitive Nicholas Rossi carted off in ambulance as he dodges ANOTHER day in court

FUGITIVE rape suspect Nicholas Rossi was carted off in an ambulance today as he dodged another day in court.

The convicted sex offender, 34 — who has 16 aliases and claims to be Arthur Knight — was due to face the latest stage of his legal battle to avoid extradition.

But paramedics were seen removing him in his pyjamas from his flat in Woodlands, Glasgow — further delaying his potential return to his native US.

It came as Edinburgh Sheriff Court heard Rossi had handed in an Irish driver’s licence in a bid to prove he was not the man wanted by the FBI for fraud and Interpol over rape allegations in Utah.

But prosecutor Julie Clark told Sheriff Kenneth Maciver QC: “My lord he (Rossi) has produced an Irish driving licence to the court.

“However, the Irish government have no record of that being legitimately issued.”

It emerged Rossi initially called for an ambulance on Wednesday night, but then refused to go with paramedics — before being wheeled out at 10.15am yesterday.

He uses a wheelchair and oxygen mask after a near-fatal battle with Covid led to his initial arrest at Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in December.

Sheriff Maciver asked Ms Clark if claims that he had contracted the virus again could be corroborated.

She replied: “We are relying on the word of his wife. We don’t know if he has tested positive.

“All we know is that he has suffered from long Covid, which has caused some damage to his lungs and he needed some oxygen therapy.

“An independent report requested by the court will be with us by early next week.

“He is refusing to allow doctors to access his medical records or speak to the people who have previously treated him.

“Any medical reports provided to this point have been tainted by this inability to access his records.”

Sheriff Maciver postponed the full extradition hearing, scheduled for next week, to focus on Rossi’s identity — and ordered that he provide official paperwork to support his claim of a mix-up.

It is expected the Crown will then ask for authority to take his fingerprints and DNA.

Law enforcement agencies in America claim Rossi faked his own death to flee charges there and came to live in Scotland under an assumed name.
