A suspected paedophile, who detectives claim abused a two-week-old baby, has been arrested after 30 years on the run.

Trevor Rombouts, known as 'Wombats', would move in a woman and sexually molest their children, investigators claim.

The 52-year-old has been on the run since warrants for his arrest were issued in his native Australia in 1990.

He was finally arrested in Oklahoma, in the US, after a woman said he had abused her for several years.

Rombouts is claimed to have carried out sickening attacks in Australia, the US and possibly in Europe, according to reports.

According to KOAM News, six alleged victims have been identified by investigators.

He is suspected of sexually abusing a five-year-old, a four-year-old and a two-week-old baby in 1990 in Austrlia.

Police in the US have been investigating him since late last year, and were in touch with Australian police through Interpol.

Two sisters came forward and said they were abused between 2007 and 2012 in Oklahoma while they were between the ages of three and eight, and 14 and 15.

Another girl was allegedly abused in Texas when she was between five and eight, between 2002 and 2009.

Detective Lieutenant Jillian Phippen said: "This is clearly a predator.

"Once we started looking at it my detective was like, 'There's going to be more victims just because of his behaviour and how he was treating the victim.'"

Rombouts had previously lived in Belgium, and there may be further victims, police believe.

He was arrested on Monday and has been charged with two counts of child sexual abuse and two of lewd molestation.
