Amid the suspense over Congress nominees from Amethi and Rae Bareli, sources Thursday indicated that Rahul Gandhi is likely to contest from the seat he lost last time. With Friday being the last date of filing of nominations, the party is expected to announce its candidates from the two prestigious constituencies tonight.
The sources said the party has started making preparations for the nomination filing in both the seats in Uttar Pradesh, which have been traditionally held by members of the Gandhi-Nehru family.
They added that Rahul Gandhi is the most likely choice of the party for Amethi, a seat he lost to Smriti Irani in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

Lookout notice issued against Prajwal Revanna in sex scandal case
Karnataka Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara on Thursday said a lookout circular has been issued to arrest Hassan JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna who is facing allegations of sexually abusing women. On Prajwal seeking seven more days to appear before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case as he is abroad, he said there is no provision to grant more than 24 hours. Prajwal is the grandson of former Prime Minister and JD(S) patriarch H D Deve Gowda and son of MLA and former Minister HD Revanna.
"A lookout notice has been issued soon after it was learnt that Prajwal Revanna has gone abroad. We have informed all the ports and airports about the lookout notice," the Minister told reporters here.
Some explicit video clips allegedly involving the 33-year-old MP had started making the rounds in Hassan in recent days. He was the NDA candidate in the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency, where polling was held on April 26.

Delhi bomb scare : Senders' intention was to create mass panic, disturb public order, says FIR
The intention of the bomb hoax emails received by nearly 200 Delhi schools was to "create mass panic and disturb public order," the Delhi Police says in an FIR registered by its Special Cell. According to an official source, who has access to the FIR, at least 125 bomb threat calls were received from different schools from 5.47 am to 2.13 pm on Wednesday.
The person said that after receiving the calls, PCR vehicles were rushed to schools, and district police, BDS, MAC, Special Cell and Crime Control Room, DDMA, NDRF, Fire CATS and several other agencies were alerted.

Heat waves are likely to scorch 265 mandals in Andhra Pradesh on Thursday, a senior official said. According to the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) managing director R Kurmanadh, "severe" heat waves are expected in 31 of the 265 mandals.
Fifteen mandals in Vizianagaram district, eight in Parvatipuram Manyam, five in Srikakulam, two in Prakasam and one in Alluri Sitaramaraju are likely to experience "severe" heat waves, Kurmanadh said on Wednesday.

One person killed, 11 injured in road accident in J-K's Ramban
One person was killed and eleven others injured when a vehicle collided with a truck on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Jammu and Kashmir's Ramban district, officials said. After panic gripped nearly 300 schools in Delhi NCR on Wednesday following a bomb threat over email, the Delhi Police said all the calls were found to be fake and declared a hoax while also appealing people to remain calm don't get misled by rumours.
"We appreciate the cooperation and patience of the school administration and parents during the investigation of the bomb calls received in some schools of the capital today. All the calls have been found to be completely false. Everyone is requested not to believe any rumour related to this nor spread it further," the Delhi Police said in a post on X.

10 Naxals including wanted leader with Rs 25 lakh bounty killed in encounter
Ten Naxalites including three women were killed in an encounter with security forces on the border of Narayanpur and Kanker districts of Chhattisgarh on Tuesday morning, state police said.
This was a second major blow to the Naxalites within 15 days. The site of Tuesday's encounter was 30 km south of Kalper village in Kanker where 29 Naxalites were killed in a gunfight with security forces on April 16, a senior police official said. Two of the killed cadres were prima facie identified as Joganna and Vinay alias Ashok, both `divisional committee members' of Maoists, he said.

Heatwave: 30 cities in Odisha report temperatures above 40 degrees
On heat wave in the state, IMD Bhubaneswar Director Manorama Mohanty says, "In Odisha, 30 cities reported 41°C and above and 29 cities recorded 42°C and above. Baripada in Mayurbanj district reported 46.4°C. Balasore reported 46°C which is the highest temperature recorded in the last 10 years.

Columbia University vowed to expel protesters who occupied a building on the New York college's grounds Tuesday as universities nationwide grapple with intensifying campus demonstrations against the Israel-Hamas war.
More than 1,000 protesters have been arrested on campuses in states including Texas, Utah, Virginia, North Carolina, New Mexico, Connecticut and New Jersey in recent days, some after violent clashes with police in riot gear.

Metro train collides with bus in downtown Los Angeles
At least 55 people were hurt, two seriously, when a Metro light rail train and a University of Southern California shuttle bus collided Tuesday along a busy thoroughfare in downtown Los Angeles, officials said.
The crash happened shortly before noon along Exposition Boulevard, near the USC campus and Natural History Museum, according to the LA Fire Department.
